Dennis Kimetto from Kenya broke the marathon world record with a time of 2:02:57 at the IAAF Gold Label Road Race at BMW Berlin. He ran 26 seconds off the previous world record of Wilson Kipsang, who ran 2:03:23 last year in the same race.
Kenyan Emmanuel Mutai who got second place in 2:03:13 was also inside the previous world record taking 39s off his previous best.
Abera Kuma from Ethopia was third in a personal best of 2:05:56.
Kimetto said that he feels good to win this tough race. Weather conditions were perfect for long-distance runners, with temperature of about 8 degrees centigrade. Kimetto kept his promise by staying in the lead group throughout and set the new world record by sprinting to victory.
